Happy October my friends! It is that time of the year again and I know many of you have been busy decorating for Halloween weekends ago already. I started last weekend and finished up my last bits and pieces just a couple of hours ago. I do have some new items, but couldn’t resist using my trusty window decals one more time.

Here we go – this is what it looks like from the outside this year:

Window Decorations

I keep coming back to these simple bats and cats. The house has the perfect windows for this and I know my neighbors like seeing them up. Besides, I have some new neighbors who I can amuse with my Cheap Window Decorations for Halloween. I found my spiderwebs on Amazon and just love them. The best part? They are even cheaper than last year. Here is a link for the large spiderweb with spider.

Decorating my Foyer

I upgraded my DIY room divider and this year I’m using curtains. I like blocking the view between Pieter’s office and the foyer. I used a tension rod to hang the curtains right in the doorway opening. Depending on the weather, we might let the trick-or-treaters come into the foyer this year, so I’m also planning on blocking off the hallway to the kitchen with a similar solution. It helps when you have extra black curtains in your closet. Mine came from Sidney’s first-year dorm room.

I hung my DIY Halloween Wreath on the inside of my door. I like the black contrast against my white door and this way I can see it all October long. When we got the house painted last year, I couldn’t decide on a front door color, so I went with black. I will have to make a new wreath for next Halloween to stand out against the black. I added plastic bats and a Halloween-themed picture frame to the wall next to the front door. This is also where I’m keeping my candy for now.

I have fewer items by the stairs this year. I decorated the mirror, added some Halloween flowers to a jug, and posed my new spooky candles next to the flowers. There are more bats hanging from the ceiling and on the wall.

Our headless guy got a new spot this year. I posed him halfway up the stairs, with a plastic Halloween bucket and candle by his feet. I was worried that he would be in the way as we go up and down the stairs, but as it turns out he is quite skinny. I balanced him with more bats on the wall and black cloth on the stair banisters to add a little bit of additional creepiness.

Decorating the Living Room

My fireplace is nice and easy to decorate. First I added some bats to look like they are escaping the fireplace itself. Then I added black fabric, some candles, and my new favorite – my Halloween Thrift Store Artwork – to the mantle! I spent $6 on a frame with a picture and added color to make it more spooky. Then I painted white ghosts, witches, pumpkins, bats, and fall leaves. What do you think? Couldn’t be easier to do.

My lighted twigs are to the left of the fireplace and I have some black crows sitting on the branches. We have not used the fireplace yet this fall, but I like how it all looks at night.

The Rest of Downstairs

I still had a few items left in my Halloween bins, so used those for additional arrangements downstairs. I created small groupings on my kitchen counter, by the television, and in the hallway to the foyer.

I love adding a little touch of Halloween to the hall bath. I normally switch out the images in my existing picture frames and have been reusing prints from previous Halloweens for a couple of years now. I’m all set to gross out guests once my plastic cockroaches are up on the wall. I place them in groups of three around the room. You might have noticed, but I’m using fewer items than in previous years. My goal for 2024 was to move items around and use them in different locations.

Halloween Night

I leave the “inside or outside” decision till the day of Halloween. The weather in Georgia is unpredictable, to say the least. You never know if you are going to have a very cold, or very warm Halloween. If it is a nice evening, we’ll sit outside and watch neighbors walk by and hand out candy to our Trick-or-Treaters. If it is a colder night, we’ll let them ring the doorbell and hand out candy from there.

This year Pieter added some lights to the front of the house and bought himself a fog machine. He worked really hard to get it all installed in time for Halloween. The Govee lights are available on Amazon and the handy phone app allows you to change the color, pattern, and set timers. We had ours on the Halloween theme for the evening. The fog machine added the final spooky touch.
